Gustave Cimiotti

Gustave Cimiotti was born in 1875 in New York where he lived and painted until his death in 1969. He was known as the "Grand Old Man of Romanticism". Cimiotti was a student of John Twachtmann and also studied at the Academy Julian in Paris. Cimiotti was a close friend of John La Farge and Winslow Homer. Gustave Cimiotti was one of the exhibitors at the Armory Show of 1913, and became a member of both the New York Water Color Club and the Salmagundi Club. During the 1920's, Cimiotti exhibited widely where his art was admired for his hightly saturated pigment and individual expression. (Source: AskART)
