Piotr Mikhailovich Suponin

Piotr Mikhailovich Suponin (1898 - 1978) was born September 18, 1898 in Kharkov, Ukraine. He was accepted into the Kharkov Institute of Art in 1925. In 1930, the 32 year old Suponin graduated from the Institute and became a member of the Union of Artists. His career was interrupted by war when he was inducted into the Russian Army at the outbreak of WWII in 1941. Suponin was badly wounded in 1943 while fighting on the German front and spent the rest of the War recovering in his hometown. From 1946 unt ilhis retirement in 1956, Suponin held a professorship at the Kharkov Institute of Art. The gifted Suponin’s works may be found in museums throughout the former USSR, as well as in major private collections in France and Great Britain.
